Cooking Class: Make Sushi With Chef Shelina

You’ll start by learning how to cook and season sushi rice before practicing simple vegetable cuts and essential rolling techniques. You’ll also explore popular sauces and accompaniments like eel sauce, Kewpie mayo, wasabi, pickled ginger and roe, learning how they complement different flavors and textures. Along the way, you’ll get a quick introduction to sushi’s roots in Japan and how it evolved into a favorite around the world. Then, you’ll put your new skills to work by preparing two colorful rolls: a classic California roll with avocado, surimi and cucumber and a veggie roll with mango, avocado and cucumber.
