Cooking Class: Mastering Temaki and Tempura

Learn modern sushi-making techniques in this engaging cooking class taught by Chef Jimmy. Create two tantalizing sushi dishes that will make you feel like an expertly-trained sushi chef!

To start the class, you'll learn how to make the perfect hand rolls. You'll make fluffy, sticky sushi rice, fill your rolls with tuna and assorted vegetables, and wrap the temaki in fresh nori. Then you will learn the art of making crispy, crunch tempura using shrimp and sweet potato to make a traditional kakiage.

Excellent teacher - not just how to cook the food, but also gives the context of the story behind it. Patiently answers questions and is very knowledgeable & competent. Would love to see a continuing pasta series from this chef.

It was a great class with alot of good information. Unfortunately, we seemed to run out of time. I think that either extending by 30min or capping the amount of people at 15 would greatly help the experience, especially because you can't anticipate the amount of questions, but I feel as though that would give a more personalized experience for the entire group. Chef Jimmy had a great attitude and was great to spend time with.

After completing military service, Chef Jimmy Lê enrolled in culinary school. Upon completion of his culinary apprenticeship, he earned the title of "certified culinarian" from the American Culinary Federation. He then went on to work at some of the most prestigious properties in the country, including the Ritz Carlton Hotel and the Allison to name a few. He also acted as a culinary instructor at the secondary and post-secondary levels. In 2013, Chef Lê was deemed one of the "Best Chefs in Louisiana" and voted among his chef peers as a "young gun".
