Cooking Class: Journey Through South American Cuisine

Join Chef Gustavo on a journey through the flavors and aromas of South American cuisine. You'll learn about customs and culture as you prepare dishes from Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Venezuela. Flavor-filled selections include ceviche with cilantro and spicy peppers and quinoa croquettes with Manchego cheese. Next, you'll learn how to make a perfectly stuffed beef empanada and an arepa reina pepiada corn cake with avocado and fresh arugula, cilantro and spring onions.

Peru: Ceviche 

Fish of the day, lemon juice, garlic, cilantro and habanero peppers 


Bolivia: Quinoa Croquettes 

With Manchego cheese, cornmeal flour, egg and sofrito 


Argentina: Beef Empanada 

 With organic ground beef, onions, garlic, red bell peppers and boiled eggs 


Venezuela: Arepa Reina Pepiada 

Corn cake filled with arugula, avocado, cilantro, spring onions and chicken

I booked Fusion Date Night with Chef Gustavo for my fiance's birthday - and what an incredible experience!! Chef Gustavo is a true professional, who has years of culinary experience. He taught us many techniques and the food was absolutely delicious (I'm still dreaming about the salmon!). For dessert, we made crepes, with apples and dulce de leche, and had a blast learning to pan flip them. This is a wonderful experience that anyone would enjoy. Highly recommend. We will be booking another class soon :)

As owner and executive chef of the lively and eclectic Rumba Cafe in Washington, D.C.'s Adams Morgan district for 20 years, Chef Gustavo has a deep love and appreciation for Latin American cuisine. He brings international inspiration from his travels through Latin America, France, Spain and the Caribbean. Chef Gustavo studied at the prestigious L'Academie de Cuisine and is available to teach cooking classes in both English and Spanish.
