James and Claudia were the nicest people, 10/10 would recommend their class. Was really pleased to see a fairly large group, it was a fun social class. We made Gnocchi and they made it seem easy!

Oversold and under prepared. Or fake it till you make it? This class opened by the head chef saying he was not excited to be there and said multiple times that he never guessed he would be at a brewery on a Tuesday teaching pasta making. But he was here nonetheless. After demonstrating kneading dough the “couple” stated they were not sure if the dough was enough to go around for all attendees. The main chef said he had brought his fiancé from Italy to teach everyone how to make gnocchi. (This is actually not gnocchi, but Gnocchetti, which is made out of flour, not potato.) I am glad I do not have a gluten allergy… When talking to the fiancé during dinner preparation, she is not actually engaged to the chef as was stated. She has been here since 10/07/2022 (11 days) on a 90 day visa and is planning to go back to Italy without marrying the main chef. I do not actually care about the status of their “relationship,” however, it was an awkward and an artificial made up story to make the gnocchi/gnochetti class more authentic. The beef tomato sauce that was described in the class description turned into a delicious onion and mushroom sauce with no protein. This was tasty, however, several people in our group do not like mushrooms and did not enjoy the meal. I do not blame them in their disappointment as they signed up for a beef tomato sauce. Also, we had no protein for the evening and received only about a 1/4 of cup pasta, because the class was “larger than expected.” In the end, no full meal was offered, the venue shorted out their electric outlets with simple hot plates of boiling water. The most in-depth instruction we received for the evening was that the head chef was needing the dough according to “personal chef experience” and he would normally hand out sections of the dough for student to study however too many were enrolled. So just watch him, or “go to the bathroom and wash your hands.” Most people at my table left early to go to Taco Bell for food prior to the end of the evening as they were famished. A less than authentic Italian experience.

He was very resourceful for the amount of space and people he had. Engaged the entire class and knew the mechanics of why we kneaded the dough.

It was a great experience! James was super nice and super helpful! Sadly we did not get to make ravioli due to Classpop overbooking them, but I enjoyed the pasta we made either way.

We were a group of 6 ladies celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful time! Chef James was wonderful!! The ravioli were delish ! We left Chef James a cash tip :) Will be back

I wasn’t as happy with the Sardinian Pasta class compared to other Classpop cooking classes. For one, James spent a great deal of time talking about his girlfriend and the cooking/dancing classes he is trying to form. I feel the time could have been better spent teaching us more cooking tips. For example, we learned only one type of pasta and I would have liked to learn a few. Other cooking classes have a few different recipes so I feel I learn more in other classes. And most of the class was spent waiting for other people’s pasta to cook because he only brought one pot. 🤷🏻‍♀️ All of us were eating at separate times instead of in a group like other classes. Also, James didn’t give us any actual recipes to take home. So it will be easy to forget what he taught us. And last, I felt the setup wasn’t the best. We were kneading dough on tables I wasn’t sure were clean (?), he didn’t push people to wash their hands, and nobody received aprons to protect their clothing. As much as I enjoyed learning to make that “one” type of pasta, I don’t feel it has as much value as other cooking classes I have taken in Sacramento.

Great cooking class!! Enjoyed learning about Sardinian customs, learning how to use a pasta roller, and making our very own ravioli. We got noticeably better by the second round. The venue was also great (Speakeasy Ales & Lagers) -- great vibes and very affordable beers.
