Reviews Guests Left For Chef Jarrett

The chef arrived over 30 minutes late, and once the class began, we watched him prepare sushi rather than actively participating. Only four volunteers were invited to take part, leaving the rest of us as spectators. My boyfriend and I received just 1.5 pieces of sushi each- far from the “meal” that was promised in the purchase details. After spending over $100 on this class, we ended up having to go out to dinner afterward. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn anything and left feeling very disappointed.

The sushi class my husband and friend attended at Peticolas Brewing Company with Chef Jarrett was a major disappointment and felt like a case of false advertising.
We signed up with the expectation of a hands-on experience, learning the basics of making classic sushi as described in the class description. Unfortunately, that’s not what we received. The class, which was advertised as a 2-hour hands-on workshop, was rushed through in just 45 minutes. To make matters worse, Chef Jarrett arrived 45 minutes late and spent much of the class commenting on how hot he was, wiping sweat off his face near the food, which was unhygienic and incredibly off-putting.
There was little to no structure, the ingredients provided were subpar, and the setup felt disorganized from start to finish. Chef Jarrett seemed more focused on speeding through a demo than actually teaching us anything valuable. Only four rolls were made for a group of 22 people, and unless you were quick (and lucky), you didn’t get a taste.
Overall, the experience was chaotic and frustrating. If you're genuinely interested in learning how to make sushi, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. This class did not deliver on its promises and was not worth the time or money!

Disappointed – Not What Was Advertised
Unfortunately, this experience did not live up to expectations. It was advertised as a hands-on sushi-making class, but that’s not what we received. While the chef and his assistant were personable, they arrived late, and not every individual or group had the opportunity to prepare sushi themselves. It felt more like a demonstration than an interactive class. For the price, we definitely did not get our money’s worth. Disappointing overall.

Chef Jarrett showed up 45 minutes late and seemed very unprepared. I thought everyone would have the opportunity to make sushi, but only four volunteers actually made sushi and the rest of us sat and watched. My husband and I got to split one soggy piece of sushi and that was it for the tasting. Chef was unable to accurately name ingredients and told us that you could buy sushi sliced salmon and tuna at any grocery store. He used premade rice from a package and added a few seasonings when I expected him to tell us how to make sushi rice rather than to tell us to buy premade rice. The class was dismissed 50 minutes after it started. This was my first experience with ClassPop and will be my last. Too unprofessional. Not what I was led to believe it was. Disappointing.

The experience was off to a bad start from the beginning. The class we booked was for 1pm-3pm and Jarrett didn't arrive until 1:20pm to setup. Class didn't start until 1:45pm and it wasn't the experience that was described at booking. We were supposed to all have hands on experience making three different types of sushi rolls and instead only four volunteers had the chance to make the rolls. The only sushi we had were three pieces from what the volunteers made. To make matters worse, he ended the class at 2:30p which was only a total of 45 minutes out of the two hours. I booked this experience as an anniversary gift for my wife and it was a complete bust.

Chef was 45 minutes left. Menu was not followed. Only did salmon and tuna which don’t eat so was looking forward to california roll with crab but was not done. we did not enjoy the experience at all. we excepted everyone to make their own sushi roll for the price. not worth the 55 a person when i did not eat any of the rolls n my family only had one slice of the rolls made. not worth the $172 that i paid.

Really like the chef but didn’t feel like I got money’s worth. For over $100 I was expecting much more in learning, creating, and eating sushi. And what’s with cream cheese in every roll? The only thing that was different was the proteins. Also felt there should have been better preparation and more tips and tricks. This class was for people who have never heard of sushi before.

Given the time consuming nature of making sushi, I did not expect a full, hands on experience; however, I expected a more professional level of instruction and variety of rolls for the cost of the class. With 21 people in the class, there was only one to two pieces of rolls to try. The chefs did not seem prepared or able to elevate beyond what I could learn beyond a YouTube video (ie, taking seeds out of the cucumber).

Chef Jarrett is very down to earth and has a great sense of humor. We loved how he explained his processes. The food was absolutely divine and it would be impossible to say which dish was our favorite! This was a lovely experience and gift for my mother and husband!
