Cooking Class: Making French Macarons
Hone your baking skills and satisfy your sweet tooth when you learn how to make French macarons from scratch. Under the guidance of Chef Stephanie, you will gain the skills and techniques needed to master this classic meringue-based pastry. Using a few high-quality ingredients, you will first prepare and then bake your macaron shells of light, crunchy cookies. Next, you will carefully tuck rich ganache filling — decadent chocolate, nutty pistachio or fruity Chambord — in between your delicate homemade cookies. The result is magnifique!

Our afternoon learning how to mix and pipe our own Pâte à Choux with an experienced teacher in Chef Stephanie was nothing short of amazing. Chef's Stephanie's intimate setting and encouragement was the perfect complement to my girlfriend's amusement over my awful piping bag technique. She also took the time to explain how and why her technique is translatable to industry standards and practices. Chef took the time to show us how to correct our (many) mistakes and highlights the artisanal details necessary to perfect our dish. We are already looking forward to our next class, hopefully one which includes fruity tarts! Thank you Chef Stephanie!

Chef Stephanie received extensive culinary training in France before finding her niche as an instructor at the Art Institute, where she taught culinary arts for eight years. She focuses on kitchen fundamentals that emphasize technique as well as fostering confidence and creativity by exploring an array of ingredients and flavors that are both traditional and exotic. Chef Stephanie’s classes promise to be fun, exciting and memorable for her students.
