Team Building Activity: Cooking Competition: Dumplings Your Way
Battle for the title of best dumplings in this hands-on cooking competition that also functions as a phenomenal team building activity. Chef Harold will walk you and your team through the process of making authentic Chinese dumplings from scratch. You'll learn expert methods to make dough, stuff, fold and cook flavorful dumplings to enjoy with your group.
After demonstrating the intricate art of folding dumplings, Chef Harold will let each team test their hand at making their own dough, selecting custom fillings and creating their own unique dumpling. Discover how fun, friendly competition fosters invaluable team bonding! Teams will be judged on flavor, appearance and the creativity of their dumpling name.
If you’d like Chef Harold to travel to your location, he may accommodate larger groups. A kitchen is not required for guest locations, only access to a sink/running water is needed.
MENU
All necessary utensils will be provided by the chef. The venue is required to have access to sinks nearby, tables set-up to prep and garbage containers. Chefs are able to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes in advance.

I took this class with my partner for Valentine's Day, Chef Harold was great! He spoke about his background and experience and was also very funny! Pretty casual, appreciated the variety of rolls we made (1 sweet potato hand roll, 1 shrimp tempura hand roll, and 1 spicy tuna roll). And he and his wife also made us miso soup! Harold and his wife's class was a great experience for a lot of laughs and great food on a Sunday evening. We enjoyed the communal atmosphere with the other guests a learning a skill my wife and I had been wanting to learn for a while. Sushi was great too! So glad my wife and I chose to do this for v-day.

I went to the sushi-making class at Trillium in Seaport and had such a great time! Harold was fun, engaging, and made the class really enjoyable — plus the food was delicious. It’s an awesome date idea and a unique experience overall. For future events, it would be helpful to have a designated bartender upstairs since it was a bit inconvenient to go to the first floor multiple times for drinks. Also, given the large group size, I’d recommend the chef use a microphone so everyone can hear the explanations clearly.

This was such a fun class! I got this experience as a birthday gift for my boyfriend. We both had a great time. Chef Harold is super personable, and makes the class fun and engaging. Not to mention, all the ingredients he brings are so fresh that when it comes time to make it, it all turns out delicious! He made us a speciality roll and a dessert which were delicious as well. He was super accommodating for any allergies in the party as well. 10/10 recommend!

Chef Harold is the man! He gave us a breakdown of the different types of sushi, a list of some of his recipes, and suggestions of where to buy sushi quality fish if we decide to make some at home! Chef Harold was also very accommodating, making sure to give other options for my pregnant wife that couldn’t eat the raw tuna. Overall, we had a great experience with great RESTAURANT QUALITY food. My fiancé and I took this class and had a great time! Chef Harold was very clear in his demonstrations and had a great sense of humor. The sushi we made was delicious and he did a great job managing a large group (20ish people). All of the ingredients were prepared (e.g. shrimp and sweet potato tempura already cooked), which meant it was delicious and perfectly cooked. It is definitely a beginner class, meaning that we just focused on rolling hand rolls and maki (no frying or cutting things ourselves), that said it is WAY harder than you expect and definitely made me appreciate the skill that goes into forming and preparing sushi! Highly recommend!

Went to Chef Harold’s sushi class and it was awesome! It was a perfect date night. It is very laid back and Chef Harold is a great teacher who has everything well prepared. Chef Harold was fantastic and we really enjoyed the Sushi 101 class. He did a great job explaining the ingredients, where to get them, why we take certain steps, and catered to everyone individually. The instructions were easy to follow and he made sure to demonstrate twice so we understood the technique and then helped everyone with questions. I would certainly recommend Chef Harold to anyone interested in sushi or other classes he offers.

Chef Harold was very entertaining and knowledgeable. I do not recommend taking the class at Short Path Distillary. The staff acted like they were inconvenienced by our presence, the music was loud and we had to ask them 3 times to turn it down so we could hear Chef Harold.

Harold is the GOAT (greatest of all time for those who don’t know what that stands for). Instructions were very straight forward and easy to follow, he had so much personality and was very funny and friendly, he circled around multiple times to make sure we followed technique correctly and was available for any questions, food was prepped and ready to go so we didn’t have to do it ourselves, and the food was delicious and very filling! I’ve done multiple cooking classes and had my reservations because the one I had done previously through a different person was an absolute disaster, but this is by far and away the best cooking class I’ve been a part of!! My partner and I had the best time and we love Harold!! I loved this class so much that I will be getting this for my brother’s birthday coming up. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Chef Harold was entertaining and committed to keeping the class on time, Korean fried wings were tasty. I should say what class pop experience is and isn’t, it’s not a cooking class you’ll learn skills/techniques it’s more of something to do, cooking in group. Most items are prepped to save time. Recipes are not given to recreate at home, so take notes or google later. Portion is a snack or sample of what was prepared, so plan dinner after or at our location you can order bar food which many did. It was cool overall.

Chef Harold was great! He explained everything & was great with being hands on with the class. The only thing I didn’t like was the location. The brewery was not very clean & the atmosphere was not welcoming. I would definitely take another class from Chef Harold but not at the location.

Harold and his wife were fantastic hosts! They were incredibly knowledgeable, entertaining, and approachable with questions. The sushi was delicious and ingredients very fresh. We were given great tips to recreate at home down to where to buy the fish and the ratios to make the rice. We had an amazing time at this sushi class and couldn’t recommend enough! :)

Definitivamente los contrataremos en el futuro cercano. Raquel Sushi making for my son’s 16th birthday. I wasn’t so sure how it would turn out. Without a doubt and with zero reservation I can whole heartedly recommend Chef Harold’s Sushi making activity as the center piece of any teenage or adult birthday party or other celebratory occasion. Chef Harold had the perfect presentation. It was so well balanced. Chef was fun and entertaining, professional and thoughtful as well as educational. Most importantly the sushi recipes he prepared and taught the kids to prepare resulted in the best sushi we have ever tasted. It was distinctively fresh with subtle flavor enhancements I hadn’t experienced previously. As it turns out this is not just my opinion as a parent. Later in the day long after Chef Harold departed, my son asked. “ can we do that again with Chef Harold next year?” It was a great experience and we are looking forward to the next time we are able to utilize his services! Thank you Chef Harold for making the day even more special!

This class was exactly what we wanted for a fun and informative date night event. Chef Harold was knowledgeable and fun in his presentation. He made us feel very confident in our ability to cook and to replicate these recipes. Now, we can cook Korean fried chicken and spicy soup! Both of these dishes were delicious and the perfect skill level for those who like to eat and to learn new recipes. We definitely recommend taking a class from Chef Harold.

This class was so much fun and the food was very high quality. My partner and I got lost on our way to the course and Chef Harold had our miso soup warm and ready for us once we arrived. His instructions were very clear with a few very well-placed jokes. This was a fantastic date night all around!

This class was so much fun! Chef Harold has an extensive knowledge in sushi, and teaches beginners super well with all of his experience. The instructions were easy to follow and he even gave us recipes for trying at home, stores to shop at, and restaurant recommendations in and around Boston. Fun date night! Class located at local brewery, Bone Up, with great beer selections. Group of ten people in class. Chef is great teacher and adapted our menu to vegetarian upon request. Plenty of food. Delicious. Chef sent us home with his personal recipes. Would do again and recommend.

We loved the experience of having Chef Harold come teach us about Wagyu and cook with us. He arrived promptly at 11 and got right to work with preparations. We had so much fun and SO much food! Chef Harold was excellent. He was very welcoming and told stories about his life as a chef. While he was teaching us how to prepare different sushi rolls, he made sure everyone was able to follow along. The sushi and the miso soup was all delicious, though my favorite was the spicy tuna. Most of the ingredients were prepped in advance, and the shrimp tempura was fried for us right before we started. Chef Harold also passed around a recipe sheet for everything that we prepared so we could make it at home. The miso soup is a particularly quick and easy one! He even suggested local markets for Asian foods and sushi-grade fish. I would recommend this class to anyone that likes sushi. Even if it doesn’t come out perfect, it’ll taste amazing!

Chef Harold provides an amazing evening as a supremely experienced sushi chef, sharing his love and knowledgeable of making sushi with you. Ingredients were fresh and already prepared for easy assembly. We enjoyed making and eating 3 delicious sushi rolls each and were easily able to follow along after a simple demonstration by Chef Harold. The Short Path Distillery location where the class was held was cozy for a class size of 24. Noise from other patrons at the bar made it hard to hear Chef Harold at times, and there wasn't any place to hang coats.

Fun night and experience overall. Couldn’t give more stars because our class was actually cut a bit short. We were meant to make 3 rolls and have a 2 hour class, however Chef Howard forgot ingredients for our third roll so we only ended up making 2 (which only took maybe an hour and 10 min overall and left us still pretty hungry). We also felt pretty rushed out of there…he had another event at 7 and by 5:30pm (our class started at 4) we were hurried out the door so they could clean up and get outta there. Again, I’d give this 5 stars if we’d have had the whole experience without feeling like they had other places to go and people to see

Harold was amazing! He was so kind, friendly, and a fantastic teacher. The food was incredible and he was even nice enough to share recipes with us. He is a great storyteller and has lived a very exciting life and it was so interesting to hear him talk to us about it. We will have Harold back definitely!

Chef Harold arrived and begin with a short story of how he became a Sushi Chef!! My son and I loved hearing about his journey and when he started with the lesson it showed his love of he does. We began with a miso soup (best I ever had, honestly) followed with a lesson on a simple shrimp tempura roll - things taste so much better when they are fresh and made to order (get it). Chef Harold followed up with very clear directions and an example to make a California Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll - oh wait I almost forgot about the Sushi Taco with spicy mango salsa. While it was simple - the flavor bursting through was not. I would HIGHLY recommend you booking Chef Harold if you want to learn to make Sushi and as he said - eat everything you make!! I look forward to expanding my Sushi making skills after this lesson and attempting to make the Sushi Taco. My son and I had a great time and look forward to another opportunity to learn from Chef Harold!!!!

Awesome experience! Highly recommend it’s exactly what you’d expect an intro class into making sushi. Chef Harold is a very knowledgeable, accomplished chef. I think overall the class was great, it is just that I had a hard time hearing everything that was being said. The acoustics were pretty poor and chef seemed a little inattentive to what people were able to hear/ not amplifying voice or checking in with people to see if they were getting the information.

Chef Harold was AMAZING, he was so friendly, energetic, and charismatic. He went around to every table to talk to every single person to assist with the rolls. He had a fun time with the class and everyone enjoyed. He was also very accommodating to my shellfish allergy. Definitely something I’d love to do again and recommend for anyone looking for a fun night out!

Chef Harold and his wife were very sweet and informative. Not only did they teach us how to make delicious sushi, but they also taught us a lot of interesting things about sushi that I didn't know. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in doing something fun with friends or even by yourself. The only piece of advice I have is to have a small snack before you go because you won't be eating until the end of the class which is 2 hours long.

I wish I would be able to rate this experience. No where was it advertised that the location required vaccination,until you got to the door. There was a rude host that stopped us an asked for ID an vax card informed I was here for the class. Host said so you are going to have to get a refund an requested us to leave. I google the Bone Up Brewery prior to going an unlike other businesses thier website doesn't specify you need to be vax. Big waste of time an money an we were so excited to go. It would of been nice to get a heads up from chef that venue required vax cards.

I thought this was a fun afternoon. It went really fast. It would be better if there was an extra 30 min and if the chef wore a microphone. We were in a busy brewery and it was hard to hear him at times. But overall, we enjoyed learning how to make sushi.

The class was very cool. We only had 2 issues, he talked for a good 30 minutes about his history and you start to lose people’s interest that way. We’re in it for the hands on. So a little less talking or talk while we’re being active. The main issue my group had was we would’ve preferred if he showed us a roll and then we could prep it. Showing all three rolls at once made it so everyone forgot what goes in each. And then we were eating it all at once instead of spreading it out. Other than that definitely a cool concept.

Chef Harold was fantastic! He was professional, kind and had a good sense of humor. The only feedback I would provide otherwise is I think it would be easier to demonstrate each roll and then have the participants try it out. He taught us instructions for 3 rolls and it was a bit difficult to remember all of the steps for each when we went back to the table to try it on our own. Regardless, it was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it!

The location was distracting, wish I could’ve heard more of what he was saying because we are right next a bar. Room was small and tight. Funny and sweet teachers and interesting class. Wish there was a bit more fish involved in sushi filing, but it was worth it to learn the method.

An amazing experience!!! It was a blast (and so delicious) for my boyfriend and I! Chef Harold and his wife Sushi Mama make it such a fun experience. It is the perfect length of time (about 2 hours), with lots of laughs! I highly recommend the class if you are considering it and I’m looking forward to signing up for another one soon :)

So fun! Did this with my husband and we loved it. We already make sushi at home, but had never taken any classes. This was a great way to increase our skills- and Harold is very fun and knowledgeable!! Would definitely recommend!

Chef Harold was great to learn from. As a class, we learn how to make a small roll, two different medium rolls, and a hand roll. His instructions were clear and helpful. Most times when I eat sushi, the results are just average, so I expected me - going at it for the first time - would have mine taste sub-par. I was wrong, it was delicious. He brought very fresh ingredients and did all the work in having the rice prepared as well as cucumber, carrots, avocado, and tuna.

This class was great! I went with a friend and we were the only people there who were not a couple, but we still had a blast. Would highly recommend Chef Harold and Sandra's sushi making 101. We got miso soup to start and then made a small roll, two medium rolls (one with tuna), and then a hand roll. Lots of food to eat after you make it!

Chef Harold was fantastic! He and his wife were very helpful and made me feel like I have a solid foundation to start making sushi in my home. They both had funny stories to tell and were both clearly super knowledgeable about sushi making. The sushi, which we had a lot of fun making ourselves, was both delicious and plentiful - more than enough to feel quite full!

We had a GREAT time! And everything was delicious. I found my rice portions were off and felt badly that I needed more to complete my last roll. Maybe portioning for each person would be helpful.

It was a fun time. Held at a brewery so you’re able to enjoy a nice beer throughout. Chef Harold was funny and knowledgeable. But I would say the course went by very quickly and you learn more tips and tricks on assembling and rolling and plating the sushi rather than learning how to prepare the ingredients. Still a fun time nonetheless :) and the sushi was delicious!

I would say this is not worth the price. It’s fun and everything, but you need more ingredients than they provide and the menu lists more food items and options than there actually are. Also I was late because there are 2 different locations.

This was not what I was expecting because I’ve never been to a golden apron class ! I thought it was going to be in a clean kitchen with our own stations but instead it was in the back of a restaurant and we all sat there in a conjoined table and place mats in front of us... I was very shocked but I will give it 4 starts because Chef Harold made it the best! He taught us a lot and the sushi was fantastic !

Amazing chef lots of experience an great dishes a suggestion is round tables for sharing ingredients and maybe one large round table so that he is at the table with us so we can see more closely also to do one dish then let us try before showing us others

It was such a fun night filled with great food and good conversation. My boyfriend and I enjoyed meeting new people at our table! Chef Harold set up the event beautifully where everything was prepared for participants to follow along easily to make each roll. The sushi was so delicious and truly was a fun time to make!

One very important thing to point out, was that Chef Harold did not have his regular space for the class (through no fault of his own). Chef Harold was wonderful! He was very friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The experience overall was very entertaining and interesting. It is certainly worth the cost and there is plenty of food included (come hungry!), and Chef Harold has some unique recipes and added ingredients to sushi which we enjoyed. We had a lot of leftovers, and it was still delicious the following morning. Highly recommend and would definitely hire again!

Chef Harold's class was amazing. His warm personality and teaching skills added a magic touch to the event. The selection of sushi, intricate preparation and the tips & tricks he shared made it a memorable experience. We got the class as a mothers day special. In addition to the sushi the moms loved his miso soup and edamame salad too. I highly recommend Chef Harold for a fantastic time and mouthwatering sushi!
