Photography Class: Composition in the Field - Boston Public Garden
Learn composition techniques while shooting at Boston Public Garden in this outdoor photography class.
In this photography class, you’ll discover the art of composition within the Boston Public Garden. Set in the heart of Boston, you’ll wander past the Swan Boats, vibrant flower beds and the iconic lagoon reflecting the city skyline, camera in hand. You’ll practice using leading lines along winding paths, apply the rule of thirds to blooming landscapes and frame subjects through arches of willow trees.
The instructor will encourage perspective shifts to help turn casual snapshots into intentional images. You’ll explore balance, symmetry and layering to transform busy scenes into clear, compelling visuals. With hands-on challenges and real-time feedback, you’ll experiment with angles, depth and timing. By the end, you’ll feel more confident composing shots and capturing everyday moments with clarity and purpose.

Richard patiently walked us through the steps and gave great instruction. I finally know how to navigate my camera that I've been using on auto for ten years. I'd definitely recommend this course to others
