Photography Class: Composition in the Field - National Building Museum
Explore one of Washington, D.C.’s most iconic interiors in this photography class focused on composition in the field.
The National Building Museum’s soaring columns, patterned floors, sweeping staircases and ever-changing natural light provide a dynamic backdrop for learning how to see your surroundings more creatively. This three-hour session begins with targeted instruction before moving into guided, hands-on practice throughout the Museum’s public spaces. You’ll work with essential composition techniques, including the rule of thirds, leading lines, symmetry, framing, patterns, negative space and depth, applying each concept directly to the building’s striking architectural geometry. Your instructor will guide you in recognizing how structure, scale and perspective shape visual storytelling. Whether you’re shooting with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, this class is ideal for photographers of all levels looking to strengthen their compositional skills in a visually stunning, real-world setting.

Richard patiently walked us through the steps and gave great instruction. I finally know how to navigate my camera that I've been using on auto for ten years. I'd definitely recommend this course to others
