For anyone who’s ever wanted to try film photography, this is the class for you. The intensive day-long workshop will take you step-by-step through the full process of shooting, processing and developing 35mm film from your SLR or rangefinder camera (a number of these can be rented for $10 per class if students don’t own one). After meeting at the designated darkroom, you’ll learn to load your camera, followed by a refresher on shooting mechanics and how to use your light meter. Then, you’ll shoot a roll of film in the surrounding neighborhood before returning to the darkroom to process the film using a film reel and developing tank. You’ll also make contact prints and enlarge negatives onto traditional darkroom paper, so you can take home a beautiful 8 x 10 print that you created from start to finish! Lunch break will be included; students should feel free to bring their lunch or dine in one of the nearby restaurants or cafes.
Who should take this class:
Intermediate and experienced digital shooters who want to try shooting film. Anyone interested in the overall process of analog film capture, processing and printing in a classic darkroom setting.
What to bring:
Bring your film-based 35mm SLR or rangefinder camera if you have one. We do have a limited number of cameras available for rental at $10 per class. Since this is an all-day class we will have a lunch break, so you might want to bring lunch. There are restaurants and cafés nearby as well.
COVID POLICY:
Masks are required for this class. Students will be asked to wear masks while inside the darkroom at all times.

I did the one-day workout this Sunday from 11am-4pm led by Kathy. I couldn't be happier with the class, it's really well structured and easy to understand. After having been using the auto mode on my camera for 7+ years now, I can finally use the manual mode now. I took some shots on manual after the class and some turned out a lot better than the auto mode. I'm so excited to take my camera out for runs now. Thanks so much Kathy and BKC!
